Gumby says "It's going to be a good day"

Wow, was that a crazy wind storm or what!?! After all that wonderful powder the end of December and the first week of January mother nature decided to give us a lesson in just how fast things can change on the mountain. The big windstorm started with almost a foot and a half of snow and then in the middle of the night we broke freezing and received more than a half an inch of rain between midnight and dawn. Then it quickly dropped below freezing and put about an inch of ultralight powder on top of a sheet of ice. This was truly some of the most difficult plowing and grooming conditions we have had since we’ve started working at The Spires.

However, the Schweitzer Grooming Crews have done a wonderful job of grooming the main runs and giving us some beautiful sunny corduroy days while we wait for the next storm. Speaking of which, it looks like we’re going to get some fresh snow this coming week so cross your fingers and hopefully we will be back to powder skiing by the end of the month.

Some fun happing at Schweitzer Mountain Resort. They will be having fireworks on January 16th 2021. And starting January 19th 2021 they will reopen the night skiing again.

Be safe and courteous with your fellow skiers and let’s keep Schweitzer open through this COVID-19 ski season. Wear a mask in line and indoors at Schweitzer and we’ll be able to ski till the end of the season.
